Dave Strasser's Freestyle Combat Challenge

Last week Friday, Coach Luke, Kaminari Dojo fighters Will White, David Ellis, and I headed down to Wisconsin for Dave Strasser's Freestyle Combat Challenge.

Will and David had a hard 6 week training camp and were well prepared.

After about 7 hours on the road we arrived in Wisconsin and checked into our hotel. We had decided to arrive a day early to adjust and relax a bit before the fight.

Our R&R was cut short after Will and David weighed in because a tornato hit down about 5 miles from our hotel that night which was interesting to say the least lol.

We made the most of it, grabbed something to eat, and waited it out.

The weather took a turn for the better on the day of the fights so, we drove down to Lake Michigan to focus on the battle ahead of us.

Later that nght we headed to Dave's gym to get signed in and ready to fight. David was the second fight on the card. Will was the 5th.

The Fights

David's fight didn't last long at all. After catching a kick and tripping his opponent's base leg, David immediately took the fight to the ground. David posted up and began to reign down punches on his opponent.

David eventually got caught in a triangle choke. Being the beast he is, David picked his opponent up and power bombs him over and over again Rampage/Arona style.

Sometime during one of the powerbombs, his opponent injured his knee? He refused to answer the bell to Round 2 and David was pronounced the winner.

Will got off to a slow start. His opponent was a strong grappler that immediately tried to take the fight to the ground. Will stuffed a couple of takedown attempts with underhooks before eventually being taken down.

Round one was non-stop action with Will fighting back to his feet several times as his opponent tried to keep the fight on the ground.

In Round 2, After landing a few powerful punches, Will got stunned when he got takedown. His opponent was able to eventually gain mount and get the stoppage after throwing some unanswered punches.

Will and David both fought hard. Coach Luke and I were happy that they had both given their all. We all learned a lot and look forward to making the trip back down to Wisconcin to compete again in the near future.

Dave Strasser runs a great show; perfect for amatuers looking to build themselves in a well organized event.
